Best4Food, Center for Food Science and Technology at the University of Milano-Bicocca

Best4Food is the interdepartmental and multidisciplinary center for food science and technology at the University of Milano-Bicocca, dedicated to innovation and the study of agri-food systems.

The Center’s goal is to identify the most suitable strategies to develop sustainable food systems capable of supporting our future and that of the next generations.

The Center is composed of over 100 researchers and 9 university departments:

  • Biotechnologies and Biosciences;
  • Medicine and Surgery;
  • Environmental and Earth Sciences;
  • Economics, Quantitative Methods and Business Strategies;
  • Law;
  • Computer Science, Systems Engineering and Communication;
  • Psychology;
  • Human Sciences for Education;
  • Sociology and Social Research.

The Center’s research, study, and project activities focus on the many dimensions of food: production, processing, distribution, consumption, and nutrition.

Agri-food systems are therefore examined holistically and systemically through historical, anthropological, social, environmental, biological, medical, neuroscientific, legal, economic, information, communication, and technological lenses, with the aim of contributing to optimal levels of human and planetary health.

Best4Food promotes collaboration among universities, research institutes, policymakers, innovators, districts, professional associations, accelerators, incubators, and enterprises to develop research and development projects aimed at improving the environmental sustainability of the food system and the quality of life. In addition, it carries out training and outreach activities by organizing events, master’s programs, conferences, and courses.

Best4Food is headquartered in the Bicocca campus, in Piazza dell’Ateneo Nuovo, Milan.
The Center is directed by Laura Prosperi.
