On 28 January 2026, the University of Milan-Bicocca will host “DIFFERS: Differentemente dolce*”, an initiative dedicated to the relationship between sugar, health, nutrition, and awareness, to be held in Aula U6-10. The morning will begin at 10:00 with a guided tour of the exhibition “Sugar, a Biography of the World”, curated by Professor Laura Prosperi (UNIMIB), who will lead participants through a historical, cultural, and social journey exploring the role of sugar in our lives. From 10:30 to 11:15, the talk “Differently sweet, equally good. The impact of sugar on our health”, with Professor Roberta Ierardi (UNIMIB and I.C. “Giovanni XXIII”), will offer a scientific and accessible perspective on the effects of sugar on the body and on possible alternatives for a more balanced diet. From 11:15 to 11:30, the focus will shift to sugar and carbohydrates in sport, with a talk by Professor Enrico Conti (I.C. “Giovanni XXIII”), centered on the energetic role of carbohydrates in physical activity. At 11:30, the workshop activities will be introduced with bread-making laboratories led by Nonna Rosa, baking collaborator, together with Dr. Gera N. (Metodo Intensive21 & Gera Food), aimed at rediscovering traditional knowledge and more conscious approaches to food production. The morning will conclude with a discussion and Q&A session (11:45–12:00), followed by a shared packed lunch from 12:00 to 13:30, conceived as an informal moment of exchange and social interaction. The event is designed as an opportunity for dialogue between research, education, and everyday practices, to collectively reflect on what it means today to be “differently sweet”.
